Stoney Creek Braves Welcomed to the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League.

The Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League would like to thank Richardson Pioneer for continuing for their second year as title sponsor of the league. Wadena Director of Operations, Carter Kolybaba said “Richardson Pioneer is happy to continue our partnership with the league and are excited to see the continued interest in fastball in the area.” The league had a successful first season offering a great opportunity for area men to play ball on a regular basis. The endeavour also gave a league for the Bantam Ages Wadena Wildcats to play in a league without having to drive 2 or more hours to their closest opposition. The league Playoffs has some delays due to weather issues but in the end the Wynyard Blues came out on top with a victory over the Fishing Lake Mariners. Winning pitcher Mike Jordan was awarded Playoff MVP by his peers.

Some Royals have recently purchased merchandise from the Branding Barn in Humboldt. We have already had interest from other players and former players in also buying something. We need to reach a minimum order number in order to make it work. If you are interested let Scott or James know and we can put together another order sheet. If there is enough interest we would likely allow for the league to start before we placed order so we can ensure all the players have a chance to find out about the opportunity.

Wadena to host “An Evening with Theoren Fleury” fundraiser Febraury 10th, 2017
About the Event:
The community of Wadena is proud to announce that it will be host to “An Evening with Theoren Fleury” on February 10th, 2017. In addition, to the evening fundraiser, Theoren will also be talking to High School students that afternoon. This is an community group with support from the Town of Wadena, Wadena Minor Sports, Rosebud Royals, and Wadena Wildcats Men’s Fastball team.

The evening fundraiser will include a meal and sports memorabilia auction in order to raise funds for upgrades to the McClymont Lions Sports Grounds. Ball interest in Wadena has risen dramatically (53 minor players in 2013 and 110 two years later plus men’s teams) and, with that, comes the necessity to upgrade our diamonds and backstops. Funds raised will go directly to that project. The committee is currently seeking sponsors for the event and of course is knocking down doors selling tickets. For more information about the event, you can like the event page on Facebook or email wadenacommunity@sasktel.net.

The student talk would also involve a number of neighbouring schools as the opportunity to have him here would need to be shared with students from various communities. Theoren’s message fits very well into the school divisions “Safe and Caring” initiative, which includes various topics including substance and sexual abuse and the healing and trauma associated with this. The student talk will be funded separately; however, without the evening fundraiser going on, our school would not financially be able to bring Theoren to Wadena.
