Wadena to host “An Evening with Theoren Fleury” fundraiser Febraury 10th, 2017
About the Event:
The community of Wadena is proud to announce that it will be host to “An Evening with Theoren Fleury” on February 10th, 2017. In addition, to the evening fundraiser, Theoren will also be talking to High School students that afternoon. This is an community group with support from the Town of Wadena, Wadena Minor Sports, Rosebud Royals, and Wadena Wildcats Men’s Fastball team.

The evening fundraiser will include a meal and sports memorabilia auction in order to raise funds for upgrades to the McClymont Lions Sports Grounds. Ball interest in Wadena has risen dramatically (53 minor players in 2013 and 110 two years later plus men’s teams) and, with that, comes the necessity to upgrade our diamonds and backstops. Funds raised will go directly to that project. The committee is currently seeking sponsors for the event and of course is knocking down doors selling tickets. For more information about the event, you can like the event page on Facebook or email wadenacommunity@sasktel.net.

The student talk would also involve a number of neighbouring schools as the opportunity to have him here would need to be shared with students from various communities. Theoren’s message fits very well into the school divisions “Safe and Caring” initiative, which includes various topics including substance and sexual abuse and the healing and trauma associated with this. The student talk will be funded separately; however, without the evening fundraiser going on, our school would not financially be able to bring Theoren to Wadena.
